If you have multiple devices, such as desktops, a laptop, and printer and want to create a network, then you will need a router.  And to avoid having many cables connected to devices such as these, especially running from one room to another room, you will need a wireless router.  So, how does one choose the best router wireless device for their network?  The following list should help make this task less difficult when connecting all your devices to one network.

  1. The router that is selected for your network needs to be compatible (work) with existing wireless cable or the DSL modem you use.  Many times laptops come equipped with a wireless card that is built-in but some do not especially older ones.  All desktops do not have a wireless card, either. Therefore, you may need to purchase one.  If you have an Apple Mac laptop or desktop chances are the wireless card is built-in.  And any device that is to be shared over the network, such as a printer needs to be compatible, also.
  2. Even the best router wireless device on the market needs password protection to help with security issues.  Also, password protection fends off freeloaders from accessing your wireless connection since you can’t know how far the signal is reaching.
  3. Some routers come with more than one antenna enabling them to be pointed in different directions; hence the range coverage area is another determining factor when selecting a network router.  For instance, will your coverage include one room or two, downstairs upstairs, or outside?
  4. When selecting a network router, look for the ones that include status lights that indicate connection and status on the router itself and PC activity.
  5. Also make sure the best router wireless device you choose for your network has two Ethernet connection ports to insure connectivity to devices, such as a full desktop to the network.
  6. Your router may be in high traffic areas, or used in travel and moved around a lot, so getting one that is durable is a good choice.  And if it will be visible, such as on a desk you may want to choose a router that is small and will blend in with its surroundings.

Many wireless routers are on the market today.  They range in size, capabilities and cost; however, it doesn’t have to be a very time-consuming task in trying to decide the best router wireless device that will do the job for your particular network for home or business.
